I enjoy eating healthy. But there are days when I need some extra diet motivation. Days when sugar is just calling my name. Or on days when maybe I feel a little self sabotaging. And during these times, inspirational quotes can really save the day.
The concept of inspirational quotes can seem totally sappy. I think of the cliche cat hanging on to the tree branch, with the words “hang in there!” by its side. On the other hand, inspirational quotes can be real world advice. They can become that voice in your head that tells you to believe in yourself. They can push you when you’re too tired or heartbroken to push yourself.
Work on the mental and physical.
I used to think of a healthy transformation as physical. It came down to what I ate, and how much I moved, and how much junk I pushed off my plate. This was during my yo-yo dieting years.
But nobody talked to me about the mental transformation. I used to think of the mental aspect as boiling down to one word: willpower. And if I could just manage some damn self-control, I’d be off of this stupid yo-yo ride.
But a big switch came when I replaced the word willpower with inspiration. I stopped trying to drill healthy habits into my lifestyle. And I instead worked to find the needed inspiration to fill my heart with enough desire and belief in myself to make me crave healthy living more than I craved junk food.
Inspirational quotes: From willpower to inspiration
And for that reason, I want to talk about inspiration. Because if you’re working towards some healthy changes, you need to stop pushing yourself. And instead, focus on finding inspiration, Because this can help you come from a place of love instead of a place of judgement.
So here are some of my favorite quote to create healthy motivation. On certain days, I can forget why I chose a healthy lifestyle. And these quotes aren’t just inspiring. They help me get back on the path I set for myself.

Transform your mental outlook, change your body.
Motivation isn’t something that you find and keep. It’s something that you need to create day after day. This is the only route to creating and maintaining a new healthier lifestyle.
Diet changes take as much emotional work as they do physical work. It isn’t just about reps at the gym. It’s about shifts in your mental perceptions. So if one of these quotes really speaks to you, hang it up somewhere you can see it daily. Sometimes you need to hear a lesson over and over before it sinks in.
So these are some of my favorites. Finding the desire is easy. Finding the inspiration to turn desire into action is much more difficult. So use anything that give you a boost in the right direction.

I really like this idea behind emotional eating. I emotional eat. But I’m also slightly addicted to food. Which makes trying to stop emotional eating hard. I think that a person in a state of mind like this, reading inspirational quotes could help.

These are great! We just moved into a new home a couple of weeks ago. The entire process was EXHAUSTING and I’m really looking forward to getting the house settled so I can get back to a good eating and exercise routine.

I can definitely relate to that Aesop quote. If you put the world’s finest food in front of me and I happen to be in a bad or stressed-out mood, I won’t enjoy that food at all. Conversely, I can enjoy a meal at Mickey D’s if I’m in a good, relaxed mood.
Erica, you have noted a number of times that stress induces you to eat: I find this bizarre. Stress is like a python that wraps itself around you – you can’t eat (at least I can’t eat) in a state of asphyxiation…
Erica says
For me personally, it comes down to the level of stress. Big deal stress – I can’t eat. I lost 20 pounds (as an already relatively small person) when my mom got sick. Small annoying everyday stress can make me crave and eat. Like when I have a bad day or something temporary stresses me out. But it always depends on the individuate.
