They want to get away from it all, and learn all there is to know about themselves and the world. Sound like you? Then you’re ready for a spiritual pilgrimage.

Read And Write As You Travel
Reading can be a great form of spiritual inspiration that can help you to appreciate your trip’s offerings. Take a break from scrolling Facebook or Instagram while waiting for flights and other transport. And connect with something deeper. This will set the tone for a magical spiritual pilgrimage.
Not only will you be able to reflect back on your trip later. You’ll be able to examine your thoughts and feelings as you journey. And you’ll learn more about yourself and what makes you tick.
You don’t have to write pages and pages each day. But a short entry each day can reveal your inner experience. Writing daily is proven to increase your happiness!
-
Make Sure You Live In The Moment
No matter what, make sure you live in the moment. Don’t wait until your trip to train yourself to do this, Start this now.
Here’s an exercise to get you started. Get a notebook and focus on the moment in front of you. Jot down the smells, sights, sounds, and anything else in the moment. Be as specific as possible and take it all in.
-
Do A Famous Spiritual Pilgrimage
Find a spiritual pilgrimage that has meaning for you. Maybe this means going to the next town over or to a completely different country. You might find that mountains call you. Or that you want to do your trip in forests or on hiking trails. Find something that inspires.
Bali, Indonesia is one such place; a beautiful setting with friendly people. You can do yoga on the beach, walk for hours, and eat delicious, beautiful looking food. Make sure you make a list of the places that seem right for you. And then do some research to create your ideal trip.
-
Take The Time To Meditate
Now that you’re on a spiritual pilgrimage, meditation is more important than ever. Do a few minutes in the morning and a few at night. And you’ll have so much more clarity. Many people find that with regular meditation they are able to get in touch with their inner guide. And this gives them answers they’ve wanted.
-
Practice Gratitude
Practicing gratitude is absolutely essential for happiness in everyday life. So make sure you practice it on your spiritual pilgrimage. It can transform your life.
When you wake up in the morning, list things for which you’re grateful. At the end of the day, do this exercise again. The more you do this, the more you’ll naturally start to see the positive. And this will increase your joy and your life satisfaction.
-
Experience Other Cultures First Hand
Want to really experience another culture? .Stay with a local or with a family if you have connections. Or make friends with the locals. Or visit small towns instead of spending all your time in tourist traps.
Just make sure you’re educated about the local culture and adapt your behavior accordingly. This way you’re not doing anything that might offend. You may need to be careful of the hand you eat with, or whether you’re showing off the souls of your feet, for example.
-
Set Your Intentions Before You Leave
Make sure you’re clear about your intentions before you leave for your trip. If you’re not, you might come back feeling like you haven’t accomplished everything you wanted. Set one main intention, or a number of smaller intentions. Write them down and take the time to focus on them each day to make sure you’re actively working towards achieving them.
-
Create New Rituals On Your Travels
Let go of the rituals you had back home. Because you have the opportunity on your travels to create brand new rituals. This is part of the inspiration in your spiritual pilgrimage.
How would you start the day if you could do absolutely anything? Would you maybe enjoy a coffee looking at a beautiful view, read a chapter of a book, or write a journal entry? All of these will help you to enjoy your time more as you work towards achieving your intentions.
-
Reflect Back On Your Experiences
When it’s all over, make sure you take the time to reflect back on your experiences. And reread things you’ve written in your journal And ask yourself what you learned, what you could have done differently, and whether you achieved your goals and intentions. This is a great way to reflect on your experiences and make them count. Help make the next trip even better and more beneficial than the last.
Are you ready to make your next trip a spiritual pilgrimage? Use some of the pointers here and you’ll learn a lot about yourself and other cultures. You might just feel like a new person once you arrive home!

This is a timely post! I’m going to the mountains alone as much as possible this summer. I have a lot of things I need to work out, and thinking time while hiking always seems to go far. I’m also going to start a gratitude journal and write down one thing every day for a year as a way to discover more joy in my life. I’ve also started going to a Dharma talk and mediation on Sundays.

I’ll definitely consider all these tips. I think the best part is taking a detox from social media. That will really make you feel focused on experiencing the place and not worrying about what to post on social media.

Timely post, Erica, as my sister and I are 24 days closer to our 16 day trip in South Wales. This time we are happily bringing her daughter with us. My niece is awesome and looking forward to seeing what we love about Wales. We’re already on the way to this being spiritual for us as we plan and pray about what it means to be blessed to do this together.

Wow, Erica, you must be a really soulful person if even your feet have souls (my feet just have soles as far as I can tell). 🙂
