As we practice bad health habits, our metabolism starts to slow. Getting older doesn’t make it easier. Hormones and bacterial imbalances can impact our digestive system, further complicating things. And this can make it feel like nothing is working to achieve our weight loss goals.
The good news is that there are some simple tips you can use to improve your metabolism and help your body get rid of excess weight and toxins. These are things you can do, starting right now! Check out the list below and change the game today.
Breathe Smarter
There is such a thing as a detoxifying breath. It’s real and only takes a few minutes. And it can help your body do a reset.
Yoga breath or pranayama is said to cleanse and purify the blood. It can reduce stress, help you sleep better. and increase energy levels. And all of these can help improve your metabolism. All without sweating!
When your practice, focus on breathing into the diaphram and feeling the oxygen travel through your body. There are many varieties of yoga breath. A nice one for insomnia or anxiety is a the 1:2 breath. This is where you gradually increase your exhale until it’s twice as long as your inhale.
Drink More

How much water do you need daily? Take your weight in pounds and divide that number by 2. This gives you the answer. For example. Let’s say you way 150 pounds. 150 divided by 2 is 75. Well, 75 is the amount of water in ounces you should ideally drink daily.
Being properly hydrated has been shown to give a kick to your metabolism. Here’s some helpful hints. Make sure to get a water purifier. Toxins cause inflammation that can not only hurt your health. They can slow your metabolism.
Don’t feel you need to stick with plain water if that isn’t your thing. Herbal tea, such as green tea or chai are full of healing antioxidants. You can also get fruit infused water. to spice things up. But avoid sugary and fizzy drinks.
Up Your Fiber
Are you guilty of not having enough fiber in your diet? Well, here’s some good news. There’s no need to buy expensive fiber bars or shake powders.
You can supplement entirely out of real, whole foods with a fiber filled smoothie. From avocados to bananas and berries, you can use any fruit or vegetable to make fiber filled smoothies. Just make sure to choose foods that are not processed.
How does fiber help increase your metabolism? It takes more calories to digest fiber than processed carbohydrates. By making your body work harder, you naturally get an extra calorie burn. And as a bonus, fiber makes you feel fuller for longer!
Oxygen Intake

Let’s talk about your breath again! You don’t think of air as having anything to do with your weight. But proper oxygen intake helps lower your blood pressure which can increase your metabolism.
If you’re indoors and sedentary much of the time, you’re depriving your body of oxygen. Take a walk during your lunch break. Build light exercise into your day. And go into nature where you can breathe in the fresh air. You might even try oxygen shots to optimize your circulation and your body’s metabolism.
Eat Something Small First Thing In The Morning
Sometimes you don’t have to work harder to get better weight loss results. Instead, try to avoid processed carbs and sugar. And for a bonus, make sure to eat something small within a half hour of waking.
When you eat first thing in the morning, you activate thermogeness (the production of heat) which gets your metabolism going for the day. This process with begin whenever you eat. But eating earlier means that your metabolism is working for more hours of the day!
Sometimes, when it comes to weight loss, you have to work smarter and not harder. Improve your water and fiber intake, get oxygen in your lungs, and eat something early in the day. And your metabolism should get that small boost you’ve been waiting for!

I love your tip to eat first thing in the morning. I recommend the same thing to my weight loss clients. It’s so key to eat small, frequent meals throughout the day.

Great tips! I will have to try the Yoga breath! I have already been trying to up my water intake. I keep a 32oz Nalgene bottle filled that for now I refill at least once, so 64oz of water is what I make sure I drink a day. I figure the rest of the water intake I need I probably get from food.
