I’m not a great skier. Honestly, I’m pretty uncoordinated. But, as someone who lives in sunny L.A., I love to visit the snow. There’s something about drinking hot cocoa after coming in from the cold. Just thinking about it gives me warm, fuzzy feelings. Too bad it’s not that diet friendly.
When I was a kid, I always drank the instant stuff that came pre-mixed with marshmallows. Such a treat. Now that I’m an adult, my palette craves something a bit more sophisticated. But even the grown up kind of hot cocoa makes me feel like a kid.
Of course, I’m a lot more health conscious than my kiddo days. That doesn’t mean I have to go without my winter cup of joy. Diet friendly hot chocolates can scream happiness. And today, I want to share my favorite options.
Please note: this list does not contain chemical sweeteners like sucralose or aspartame. These all contain more natural sweeteners. But only you can decide the sweeteners that are best for you.

Orgain Peppermint Cocoa
Winter is a time when our bodies want to pack on the pounds. So I love that this is a protein powder that can help keep you full. Each serving packs 21 grams of protein. Drink it at a holiday party and you’ll be stronger against your comfort food cravings.
There’s no sugar at all. However, it does contain sugar alcohols. So avoid if you’re sensitive. But otherwise, just warm up a serving with a cup of your favorite unsweetened non-dairy milk. You’ll feel like you’re indulging.

Diabetics Kitchen Gourmet Drinking Chocolate
You might be skeptical this one is diet friendly. It tastes so rich and creamy. But this hot cocoa only has 2 grams of net carbs. This is good news because the worst carbohydrates are the ones that are processed and sugary like in conventional hot cocoa.
Diabetes Kitchen hot cocoa has simple ingredients. They don’t use any sugar alcohols. Their cocoa is sweetened by stevia and Monk Fruit Extract. Both of these are cleaner options for sugar substitute. Serve this one warm with your favorite milk or unsweetened non-dairy milk.

Keto Cocoa
Are you on a high-fat diet? Then this is the diet friendly hot cocoa for you. Keto Cocoa delivers a rich, hot cocoa taste without all the carbs and sugar. And it’s packed with lots of high quality fats. But you won’t feel like you’re being healthy. This for sure has you feeling like you’re on a cheat day.
Keep in mind, this is very high fat. So if you’re not on a ketogenic diet, you’ll want to indulge in moderation. But if you mix this with some hot milk, or even your morning coffee, you’ll feel like you’ve been transported to a snow lodge, warming up from a long day in the cold.

Lakanto Hot Chocolate with Probiotics
I mostly know Lakanto for their variety of healthier coffee creams. But they also make a pretty crave-worthy diet friendly hot cocoa mix. And as a little bonus, the mix has added probiotics which are good for your tummy.
Lakanto hot chocolate is sweetened with Monk Fruit extract and erythritol. So again, avoid if you react to sugar alcohols. But you can heat this up with your favorite milk variety. And you won’t feel like you’re missing out on one of your favorite drinks of the season

Bottom line: there are plenty of healthier ways to get your hot cocoa fix this winter. It’s cold outside. And there’s nothing better than a warm cup of chocolate to keep you cozy. Just pick your favorite and drink it up.
Just because you’re eating healthier doesn’t mean you have to be bored. You just need to be a bit more creative. Never make a food you crave off limits. Find ways to bring it back.
May you stay warm, cozy, and happy this winter!
